It’s that time of the year again. That much anticipated Sunday in February where almost all Americans get together with their friends and loved ones. Gathered in front of the television set, eating their fill of hamburgers, chips and soda while they watch the most dramatic and nail biting (and most watched!) sports championship of the year! Thats right folks, we’re talking about…Puppy Bowl XIII!!
This season Team Ruff faced off against Team Fluff in the XIIIth (13th) Animal Planet Puppy Bowl. Team Fluff was led by the “Poodle Phenom” Rory, a rookie poodle mix who also won MVP (Most Valuable Pup) in the the 93 – 38 crushing of Team Ruff. Rory scored three touchdowns in the first quarter alone, in a game that saw Team Fluff set the all-time Puppy Bowl scoring record.
Before the Halftime break, team Ruff started to mount a comeback, scoring with Team Fluff’s bandana. After a review of the play Ref Dan Schachner said it was a legal play. Then it was time for the Animal Planet Puppy Bowl half-time show, featuring Kitty Gaga and everyone in America was watching.
Another contender for Most Valuable pup, Alexander Hamilpup nearly stole the show with his charisma and aggressive gameplay, drawing a flag for taunting.
But it was that aggressive attitude that led Team Fluff to victory. Our guys were hungry for revenge. They wanted this victory bad. It was do or die for these guys” said Sparky O’Neill, Fluff Head Coach and 2 time Most Valuable Pup. Cocker spaniel-bichon frise mix Nikita added three touchdowns and a field goal for Team Fluff en route to securing the prestigious Lombarki Trophy.
